Rajendra Prasad
Dr. Rajendra Prasad was the President of Constituent Assembly. He presented Indian constitution to masses in 1950. He was also the first president of India.
Dr. Rajendra Prasad was born in 1884 Jiradei in Bihar. His father was Diwan. He got married at the age of 12. He had a very cooperative wife due to whom he could culminate to such great height. From his childhood he was a very sharp student. Once his examiner quoted after seeing his examination sheet “Examinee is better than Examiner”. He stood first in Matric examination. After studying law he became lawyer in Calcutta High Court in 1911. Side by side he taught law in Calcutta Law College on request of the vice-chancellor bhn. Ashutosh Mukherjee. In 1916, he came to Bihar on it’s liberation from West Bengal.
He was honest with his political life also, side by side with academic life. His full political life started in 1917 when he came in contact with Gandhiji during Champaran movement. His nature tallied with Gandhiji, so he was sometimes rightly called as ‘Gandhi of Bihar’ by people. He was selected as Congress President in Bihar. Sardar Patel and Jawaharlal Nehru were his Chief Advisor. Due to his popularity he was again selected as President of India in 1952. In 1962 he retired from the post of presidentship and returned back to Sadaquat Ashram in Patna. He was honoured with ‘Bharat Ratna’ by the Government of India due to excellent services to our country. He died at Ratna in 1963.
