Dr. Bidhan Chandra Roy was a world class doctor cum politician. Recipi-ent of Bharat Ratna in 1961 for his notable services to the nation. He was the first Chief Minister of West Bengal.

Dr. B. C. Roy was born on 1st July 1882 in Patna. His personality was deeply influenced by his mother, Aghore Kamini, who was a social worker. He belonged to an educated and d cultured family. He passed school and college from Patna. Later on he passed his M.D. from Calcutta. Then he passed with distinction, (London) and ER.C.R (England), Dr. Roy started his career as an Assistant a Surgeon and soon he made his mark in his field.

Later on, he entered politics in 1923 as independent candidate. Soon he became a famous national leader. He came in close personal contact with Nehru and Mahatma Gandhi, as a physician, under his care. 

Dr. Roy worked in many top places due to his excellent inherent powers. He was vice-chancellor of the Calcutta University from 1942-44. When India became a republic he was elected as Chief Minister of West-Bengal and proved his ability. He continued his post side by side continuing his loving profession of Medicine. 

He died on July 1, 1962 in Kolkata which was a co-incidence that his birth and death dates were the same.
